During the late 60's (while the show was still in preliminary phase) blacks were being depicted as criminals and thugs, segregation was still widely accepted and practiced and many influential artists didn't know how they'd ever reach a national audience.

SOUL TRAIN was not only FUN and ENTERTAINING, it stood  as an ICON, a TELEVISION-REVOLUTION for the African American community, which later influenced channels such as BET, TV ONE and BlackFamilyChannel. SOUL TRAIN featured ALL of the BEST TALENT and metaphorically took black entertainment from the streets and brought it up to become THE HIPPEST SHOW IN AMERICA!
